White Paper: Fuel Saving Potentials by TT-Sense®
September 18, 2016This White Paper by VAF Instruments presents the possibilities offered by the full scale measurement of propeller thrust (and torque), to identify fuel saving potentials and emission reductions. Via full scale measurements of propeller thrust and torque, in relation to other parameters like ship speed, the change in propeller efficiency and the hull resistance can separately be determined over time. This for instance due to propeller or hull fouling, propeller damages and hull coatings. In addition an example will be shown of measurement results, and the possibilities of the propeller thrust and torque measurements, on a +13000 TEU container vessel in service.
VAF Instruments White Paper was presented at the HULLPIC 2016 Conference Italy 13 – 15 April 2016 and quoted by The Naval Architect and HANSA:
“VAF Instruments showed a silver lining on the horizon: the optical measurement approach for thrust and torque increases accuracy over the classical strain gauges. Now all we need is wider roll-out of this technology in the world fleet.”
